It's a cute yard decoration, but that's about it. November 21, 2009 A. Kite (Tennessee) I have a "Barker Breaker" that I use when I'm at home to keep my dogs from barking. It releases a high-pitched beep when you press the button, and it works well. Unfortunately, it doesn't work too good on the automatic setting, so I purchased this item to try to keep my dogs from barking when I'm not home. I have two dogs, an Australian Cattle Dog and a Corgi/Border Collie - both about 50 lbs in size.
This thing didn't do anything for my dogs. They would stand right in front of it and bark, and the little red light would flash, but it wouldn't make them stop barking.
I don't know if they are just too big to be affected by the "ultrasonic" noise, or if they are used to the audible high-pitched beep, or what. Regardless, I'm sending this back because as cute as it is, it's not worth $45.
did not deter dogs from barking. November 20, 2009 H. Violi (miami) our neighbors have 3 poorly trained dogs. perhaps this device only works well when a dog can easily associate his/her bark with that of the noise.
Works on some dogs, not on others November 19, 2009 Robin Clark (Chester, VA) My husband and I bought this product hoping it would be our relief from the 3 barking neighbor dogs next door. They are untrained, mixed breed dogs. We have our own dog, a golden retriever, but she does not bark. We put the birdhouse along our property line and pointed towards the neighbors dogs. It has absolutely no effect on them. They don't seem to be bothered by it at all. The continue to bark even when the device is activated. Our dog, on the other hand, is terrified of it. She's smart enough to know that when neighbor dogs are barking, she better not go outside. She trembles if we force her outside and runs for the door. So, if the dog(s) you are trying to use this on are trainable and intelligent, this product will work. If the dog(s) you are trying to use this on are stubborn and not trainable, don't waste your money.
Also, there is a LED light that flashes every 5 seconds to let you know the battery is good. This creates a problem if you are trying to use it on neighbor dogs and be discrete (it can be seen at night from a distance). You would need to conceal the LED with duct tape or something else.
It works!!! November 19, 2009 J. Yates (Superior, CO) This works great. We have 2 dogs, and our backyard backs to a greenbelt with a walking path that has lots of people out walking their dogs. Needless to say, our dogs feel it is their duty to bark like crazy to defend their yard.......this product has greatly reduced the unnecessary barking. I love it, and I'm sure my neighbors do too!
Works well enough November 17, 2009 S. Long (Carson, Ca United States) It definitely works as a bark deterrent. I have a chow/shiba inu mix 10 month old puppy, and both breeds have a tendency towards protectiveness. If anyone gets within a few feet of "her" yard, you'll hear about it. When we first put the PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic up, it really confused her and she didn't like the sound. She'd start to bark but it would turn into a wimper, which is actually what we wanted; one bark is enough. So for the first week or so she'd bark once and be done with it. Unfortunately our backyard is sort of shaped like a wide U with two small areas on either side of the house. She's figured out that the Bark Deterrent won't reach the sides, so she'll run to either side to bark. I'm going to buy to more of them to get full coverage and I will update my review after that's been up and running. I only gave it 3 stars for now just because it didn't completely stop her barking it just made her barking shorter and less frequent.
