RANGE SUCKS November 9, 2009 Happy (Georgia) My dog weighs 12.5 lbs. I bought this collar for its weight and size. This unit is small but the range is not more than about 50 feet. It has 4 levels and it usually has to be put on level 4 to get my dogs attention. It is very unreliable. I would pay 200.00 for a shock collar that would always perform. The units collar and remote battery was DOA and I had to buy a new ones. I put the collar on my arm. You can hear the good/bad tone when you press the button but no shock on 1 or 2 and 3 is so mild until you get to level 4 it is useless. Level 4 will get your dogs attention as it will make him yelp with pain. If you get much beyond 20 to 50 feet it usually will not work. I would not buy this product again. My cars remote will work much farther than this collar.
Works wonderfully November 5, 2009 H. Cornell (Seattle, Washington USA) This made walks with my chihuahua mix actually fun and enjoyable for us both instead of a constant, frustrating battle to control his barking and lunging at other dogs. Now he just walks quietly by them. Wearing the collar is typically enough for him to keep him quiet. Hardly ever have to shock him after only having the collar for a couple of days. However, I recommend getting a lanyard to put on the remote if you are like me and set things in your shallow coat pockets (mine fell out and was lost at the local off-leash dog park).
Good Dog Immediately! August 23, 2009 Connie Ohanlon (Nebraska) I was skeptical about using the collar but after only 1 day our very head strong dog is listening to commands. After 2 days all I have to do is use the sounds, no shocks! I'm amazed.
My only suggestion to Innotech would be to have rechargeable batteries. We haven't had to replace them yet but we'd leave the collar on more if we weren't worried about running the batteries down.
Love it June 26, 2009 Dawn P. Garrison 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love that you need to push the button to shock the dog or push for bad noise this is a great way to train and stop your dog from barking! I have a tea cup yorkie that weights only two pounds and this is the perfect color it fits well and the shock does not harm him!
Good collar June 5, 2009 Twinkieslug (Sacramento, CA) This collar works as described. Initially it was hard to turn it on and off but the mechanism has loosened up a bit with time. The collar has to be really snug to work, right up behind the ears. I put the receiver on the back or side of the neck as it is too uncomfortable on the throat. I picked the Lap Dog Trainer because the receiver on the bigger collar was too bulky, the dog is a 40 pound whippet with a slender neck. (The draw back of the small size is lack of recharge ability.) I bought it to correct him when he chases my pet sheep, and also fast running dogs as he is aggressive when he catches them. Overall it works but I found for a prey drive issue that once the dog is in full chase mode, he will often be too amped to respond to the shock. He will respond if I can get him before he gets into a full run. Then I really praise him with when he chooses not to chase. This is a hard issue for a dog bred to chase animals. To be fair, I do let him chase all the squirrels he wants as an acceptable outlet for that prey drive. The electric collars in general warn that they are not meant to deal with aggression issues and one should consult a professional trainer before using one in that situation.
