| Customer Reviews: Excellent training resource for GSD's March 23, 2009 Dr. Memory S. Hughes-Seaman (Paso Robles, CA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
the book is written by a Scot and he gives very clear excellent examples of how to achieve results with intelligent gentle leadership.
He calls his dog "son" which I found very endearing.
Achieved wonders with his methods and I learned a great deal from his book.

The first half of the book was informative. I was less interested in the second half as I am not interested in showing my dog.
Disappointing- I'll sell you my copy February 1, 2006 Dr. M 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The methods of training in this book are outdated and are not aligned with acceptable practices of 'do no harm to the dog'.
There are many ways to train dogs with positive reinforcement other than what is suggested here.
Like some popular personalities who are not using updated behavior techniques, this author misses the mark.
I can't recall if it was this book or his other one where he HITS THE DOG'S PAWS for jumping on the fence!
There is no need to hit a dog to train it.
Even with beautiful, strong breeds like the shepherd, you can establish respect for humans without "alpha rolls" and dangerous practices like hitting the dog.
I recommend Victoria Stilwell as an author who truly knows modern, positive training methods.
