Product Description

101 Dog Tricks is the largest trick book on the market and the only one presenting full-color photos of each trick and its training steps? The step-by-step approach, difficulty rating, and prerequisites, allow readers to start training immediately. Tips and trouble-shooting boxes cover common problems, while "build-on" ideas suggest more complicated tricks which build on each new skill. No special tools (such as clickers) or knowledge of specific training methods are required. Trick training is a great way to bond with your dog and help him integrate into your family. It keeps him mentally and physically challenged and helps to establish paths of communication between you. Many tricks build skills needed for common dog sports, dog dancing, and dog therapy work. It's every dog lover's privilege that Kyra and Chalcy took time from their performing schedule to share their secrets in 101 Dog Tricks.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!   October 9, 2009

As the owner of a professional pet-sitting and dog-walking business in Michigan, USA, I'm always seeking new ways to engage, positively challenge, and bond with my pet clients. Our winter season is long, and we have many rainy days throughout the year. When the weather is inappropriate for walking dogs, I turn to the pages of 101 Dog Tricks, by Kyra Sundance and Chalcy. This step-by-step book offers marvelous ways to spend quality time indoors with dogs of all ages! Training is a fun way to stimulate a dog's mind, senses and physical skills. And this book shows the reader how to play with your dog using positive training methods accompanied by fantastic photographs. This is an outstanding book for anyone interested in helping integrate a dog into your family, and keep her mentally and physically challenged. The rewards are invaluable! 5 out of 5 stars Well organized with great content   August 29, 2009

I have gotten a lot of use out of this book. It is arranged in a way that makes individual tricks easy to follow. My dogs have learned some of the tricks already and I look forward to teaching them several more.

Great job!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Training Book   August 14, 2009

This is an amazing book. I am a beginner dog trainer and when I ordered it I was most concerned about how the author actually went about training, whether it was about positive reinforcement or what. I was extremely pleased to find that not only does the book concentrate completely on positive reinforcement, but it builds up complicated tricks very gradually. Besides making the training process faster and easier, it helps to make sure the dog truly understands what you're asking them to do - rather than guess and check.

The book is also full of helpful tips on every page, and most tricks come with a "build on it" section. This means building on a trick like "fetch." After your dog consistently performs "fetch", there is a "build on it" option that allows further training your dog to fetch specific items, such as "fetch keys." This is great for both dog and trainer to gradually move from beginning to more advanced tricks.

For most tricks there is also a "common problems" section. This is great because it can help you anticipate problems AND fix problems that do come up. Most of them were spot on and my dog had problems in the exact area that the book mentions. In other cases, what my dog did was similar to the common problems so I could adjust the solution to my needs.

On top of all this, there are two indexes in the back of the book. One has the tricks organized by training level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) while the other is organized by sport/activity (agility, performing on stage, obedience). Both of these were very helpful to me.
