Product Description Canine expert Victoria Stilwell shows readers how to train their dogs out of even the most difficult and persistent bad behaviors. Its Supernanny for your dog Victoria Stilwell is one of the worlds most recognized and respected dog trainers. As the host of Britains hit television series Its Me or the Dog and the founder of training schools on both sides of the Atlantic, she is known as much for her spunky attitude as for her caring, effective methods. Now, in her first book, Victoria shows how to tame even the most problematic dog. Simple, intuitive instructions and color photographs help dog owners not merely train their pets, but understand them -- so when a new issue arises, theyll be able to adjust their approach and nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand. Throughout, she reminds owners that training isnt about imposing their will on a dog; its about giving him the tools he needs to live in the human world. Topics include: --Think Dog: understanding your pup --Talk Dog: canine communication --Dog School: basic obedience training --Dogs Dinner: the right diet --Accidents Will Happen: house-training --Youll Never Walk Alone: exercise --Workers Playtime: having fun with your dog

It's not about her... September 27, 2009 Kate L. Huver (USA) Victoria Stillwell is as good as it gets. Dump that Cesar book and read this one. She is the real dog whisperer. She is positive. Victoria has an understanding of dogs and what dog owners need that exceeds any trainer I have seen. Obedience and manners are just the first step. You have to take into account so many other things in the dogs world.
The book is not called Victoria's methods and her TV show is not called The Victoria Stillwell show because it is not about her. It is about you and your dog and how to have that kind of friendship that dog owners look for.
Victoria Stilwell's love and respect for animals is refreshing September 8, 2009 K. Creason (Seattle, WA USA) Anyone familiar with Victoria Stilwell from "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet will enjoy this book. Her philosophy for training dogs with respect and caring is so sensible. It's impossible to disagree with her when you see the results of her method. All dog owners can benefit by learning how to recognize and acknowlege the significance of dog body language and behavior triggers. This will surely lead to fewer situations where people mistreat, abandon or give up their dogs because of behavior issues. This book is moving, informative, and interesting. There are photographs, which I found to be the weakest part of the book, as they were often indistinct. However, the photographs do not depict dogs in training, so nothing is lost by ignoring them. The descriptions and step-by-step instructions for each behavior modification are well-written. I think readers will find that they can follow the instructions easily as they put into action what they have read. While the book could have offered more examples and a wider range of behaviors to modify, the philosophy that Ms Stilwell wants to get across to readers comes through loud and clear.
Dog training September 8, 2009 Robin Wallace I love watching her show on the Animal Planet because she is so knowledgeable and confident with difficult dogs. I just got a puppy and wanted to train him right so I would not have to have her visit me on some future date! Her book is a great blueprint to help either a new dog or a dog that has lacked training in the past. I very highly recommend her book for all dog owners.
Easy to read and very practical September 7, 2009 Avid Reader (Ontario Canada) I bought this book as I watch Victoria Stilwell's "It's me or the dog" and I like her positive approach to behavior training. I found this book to be very informative and practical and yet it is not a heavy intense read. I was expecting it to be almost like a text book but it is not. I like it as it is a good quick reference book. It would be helpful though if Ms. Stilwell would write a troubleshooting book (so to speak) for problematic issues that pet owners might face or divide the book in sections, puppy, adult, pet store and shelter dog for pet owners. I understand that many people recommend that people do not buy dogs from pet stores as they tend get the puppies from mills but the reality is that some people do go out and buy from pet stores. I love the way Ms. Stilwell explains and tackles issues in her book and I hope she writes more books with cases seen on her show.
Everyone Getting a New Puppy Needs This Book! September 5, 2009 Ms. Laurel E. Schuman (Anaheim Hills, CA) Victoria Stillwell is the real dog whisperer. In this book she gives you the basics of positive dog training.
