This book changed my husband's life October 27, 2009 Pelvic pain sufferer's wife My husband struggled with chronic pelvic pain for three years and bounced from doctor to doctor before finding this book. The book spoke directly to his symptoms and condition, and he was greatly encouraged just by reading it. He subsequently went to the seminar clinic in California and had a great experience there. Using the tools described in the book and taught in the clinic, he was able to free himself from this distressing condition. Before finding this book, my husband's physical condition and anxiety and depression had taken him into a very dark place. It was upon finding this book and heading in this direction that turned his life around. I recommend this book to anyone suffering from pelvic pain symptoms and any loved ones of those suffering from pelvic pain related symptoms.
Great Book, but there are betters out there October 26, 2009 Servant (California, USA) The strength of this book is it's section on "paradoxal relaxation".
The book is really a big advertisement for the $5K (insurance doesn't cover the cost) class that lasts a week. Just enough information is given out in the book to get you interested, but you are pretty much told in the book that you have to take the class to get the full benefit.
There are better books out there. I recommend "Heal Pelvic Pain" by Amy Stein. It's a much more straightforward book, shows you how to heal your pelvis pain through stretches, diet, massage, and exercise, and relies much less heavily on the "relaxation techniques".
Life Saver October 2, 2009 Jason (California) When I bought this book I was desperate with pain and unable to take prescribed pain medicine.
Urologists and internal medicine doctors are dubious about efficacy of the approach - but you shouldn't be.
It save me and many others. Here's my take. The book has three important aspects: the authors are smart flexible thinkers who were paying attention during their time with patients, they employ trigger point release which is remarkable in it's own right (see Travel & Simons), finally, progressive relaxation was lifted from Edmund Jacobson - a practical genius. You can trust the Stanford protocol.
Centered more on male medical issues than female September 12, 2009 D. Norris This book had very good information for the male medical issues related to pelvic pain. The female content is limited, helpful, but limited. If you are looking for a book on female pelvic pain, there are others that do a better job.

I've followed the development of the Stanford Protocol for a number of years and recently reviewed this latest edition of Headache in The Pelvis. This is a remarkable book and methodology that represents a sea change in the treatment of pelvic pain. The principles discussed are sound, and show a subtle appreciation of what human beings experience dealing with this syndrome. This is a pragmatic, specific protocol detailed in this edition. As close to a silver bullet as you can get. This is a pioneering treatment for pelvic pain. I am grateful that this book has been written and method developed that can be effective reducing people's suffering.
