Product Description Definitely not a training book full of stale do+s and don+ts, BONES WOULD RAIN FROM THE SKY is a beautifully written exploration of the ways in which humans can establish a better rapport with their dogs. Positing that owners+ relationships with their canine companions have the power to make them more human-and humane-the author examines the way owner/dog relationships go wrong, and how owners can make them right. Profound and practical, the book offers new insights into behavioral -problems,+ improved communication, and mutual respect and trust, while challenging readers to re-examine their own attitudes and discover the joy in a genuine partnership.

Love this book! September 7, 2009 Brenda Mejia (Cathedral City CA) Awesome book! Highly recommend it for the dog lover that wants a relationship with their pet.
There are better books on dogs. May 30, 2009 Anonymous (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Clothier clearly knows a lot. But the book has much more to teach about her personality and its quirks than it does about dogs.
Bones Would Rain From The Sky March 4, 2009 Denise Powell (Northern California) This is a marvelous book. I highly recommend it for anyone who shares their life with dogs.
Not a training manual, but an inspiration January 27, 2009 Mythadventures Suzanne Clothier's Bones Would Rain from the Sky was a wonderful book. It should be required reading for any dog owner.
It is not really a training manual for dogs. It's more of an exploration of life with dogs, and trying to understand the world from their point of view. If anything it should teach dog owners to have more patience with their canine companions. The dog afterall is having to learn a whole new language that he/she is incapable of speaking.
Clothier does give some training tips. The main thrust is that each dog is an individual, just as people are. What works for one dog, may not work with another. There are no exact recipes as she puts it. It's up to the owners and trainers to find out what works for each individual dog. It appears a daunting task, but if we love our dogs as much as we profess, shouldn't we try?
Hanky warning: The last two chapters deal with the loss of a pet. They aren't easy reading, as she vividly brings the emotions of grief to life. They're important though in that they teach us much of how to deal with the grief of losing our pets.
Some may fault her prose as being long winded, but I enjoyed the various antedotes of dealing with troubled individuals.
Not a how to but an absolute Go to November 13, 2008 Deborah J. Turner (Central Florida) I am just finishing this book and while it doesn't give cookie cutter solutions to individual behaviors it does give one of the best explantions of how to deepen your relationship with your dog, per the title. Unfortunately, like everythng else in American Society we want predigested pills and solutions for every little thing. If you are looking for a recipe this book does not give you one. But as she says you can make a meal from a recipe but to be a cook you need to learn by feel. As to the length it isn't a quick read but you have to hear or read something 7 times to remember it and having it be restated from a different angle can make the difference between getting the concept and just reading it.
