Product Description Instead of Going Out of Your Mind, Get into His. The only American to study and work with the renowned Barbara Woodhouse, Brian Kilcommons solves all those "bad dog" problems that drive owners crazy-and shows you how to raise a puppy into a happy, perfectly behaved dog. The trick is to understand how dogs think, read their body language, and, with the secrets Kilcommons shares in this book, be "fun, fair, and firm." A dog-training guide that gives you immediate results even with an adult dog, this manual trains you, as it gives owners everything they need and everything dogs need to become... Good Owners, Great Dogs Includes specific tips on how to: * housebreak both puppies and adult dogs * teach your dog to come to you regardless of what he's doing * end annoying habits like jumping, food stealing, and barking * prevent aggression and, in many cases, stop it after it has become a problem * use games to teach your dog to obey ...and much more.

best dog training book I've ever read November 19, 2009 J. Chaabouni (Westerville, OH United States) I have read a lot of dog training and behavior books and I think this one is the most useful for everyday situations. I trained my dogs with these techniques and had 10+ years of happy life with them.
Useful information but I felt it was overwhelmingly negative November 16, 2009 J. Davis (Long Beach, CA USA) I bought this book as a "refresher course" and to see if there was any new or insightful information on the subject of puppy raising and dog training. I have owned many wonderful dogs during my lifetime. All of them intelligent, happy, respectful, housebroken, eager to please, obedient, fun and loyal companions. These dogs enriched our lives and were in every sense, a part of our family. After 7 years without a dog and all our children grown and on their own, I have decided to bring another puppy into our home.
Although the author undoubtedly has a passion for dogs and their well-being, and has been successful in making it his life's work, I think that the author's tone could be overwhelming to the new dog owner. Many times, as I read through the chapters, I found myself thinking that, if I were contemplating getting a dog for the first time, I would be afraid to even try after reading this book! I agree that owning a dog is a huge responsibility and a commitment that should not be taken lightly or without much forethought. However, in my opinion, the author makes dog ownership sound too much like never-ending drudgery and headache (which can be the likely outcome without proper breed selection and training) and fails to provide the reader, especially a new dog owner, with hope or a sense of the wonderful payback and companionship that a well-trained dog can provide beyond the fun yet intensely neediness of puppyhood.
Good Owners, Great Dogs November 4, 2009 Kandis Palmanteer (Boyds, WA USA) I have a 7 year old Lasa mix and a 1 year old Chinese Crested, both female. This book helped me understand my girls psychology and behavior. The tips for positive training are priceless. Kudos to Kilcommons and Wilson!

Must have for new dog owner November 1, 2009 Honest Abe (Baltimore) This book has taught me so much about dogs. I have never had my own, but am getting one soon and this is filled with information that every dog owner should know, but I would bet most don't.
This is a good book October 18, 2009 Judy L. Westcott (Oregon) This is a very good book for training dogs. It was recommended to me by a trainer.
