Product Description
Questions to Ask a Breeder: 1. What kind of job is this, growing dogs? 2. Are these dogs nice? I mean of course they are. But if not, is this refundable? 3. Is this a stable business? Do you make a decent living? 4. Does the insurance kill you or is it okay? 5. Dogs are animals ? does this mean you qualify for some kind of Federal ranch subsidies? 6. What do I say to people who want to know how I can spend $1500 and up on a dog when there are so many dogs to be rescued from the pound?

The (make-believe) Rabbis of the (fictional) Boca Raton Theological Seminary have developed the essential dog training program for raising a Jewish dog. For the first time, the same dynamic blend of passive-aggressiveness and smothering indulgence, that unique alloy of infantilization and disingenuous manipulation that created generations of high-achieving Jewish boys and girls, can be applied to create a generation of high-achieving Jewish doggies. Written (for real) by Ellis Weiner and Barbara Davilman, co-authors of the bestselling Yiddish with Dick and Jane and Yiddish with George and Laura, this essential "guide" is sure to be a complete howl.

5 out of 5 stars How to make your dog laugh out loud!   October 13, 2009
Claude Lambert (Savannah, USA)
If you ever felt like a dog who has a Jewish mother and an Italian father, or the reverse, this is the book for you.
The book has Jewish humor and a striking European flavor. It is funny, and a welcome change from all the dogs' books around.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting to say the least. Funny too...   September 14, 2009
Abraham (California)
This book is something special. I have a little poodle (well my wife does) but I think it may be too late to implement some of the tactics advised for behavioral adjustment with him. But I'll be sure to try it all with my next dog, if there is a next dog.

5 out of 5 stars Irresistible!   September 4, 2009
Sally Friedes (California)
I bought this book for friends who love to pamper their dog, perused it before handing it over, and seriously considered stopping at the Humane Society on the way to their house to get my own dog. This book is an absolute must for any Jewish person who has a dog. Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Don't buy on Kindle!   July 25, 2009
Victoria Ceretto (Reno, Nevada)
I'm sure there's a lot of humor in this book but it's NOT for Kindle.
I tried to zoom in on photos but they didn't enlarge as they did for other books I've read on the device. And navigating the tables was an incredibly tedious process. To be honest, I gave up on the book and feel disappointed and cheated.

That being said, I was raised Catholic in a Jewish environment--my dad was a clothing manufacturer in Los Angeles and then there was my uncle Seymour. Need I say more? What surprises me is how much Jewish temperament I absorbed. My relationship with my dogs is well-documented in the first two or three chapters of the book which is as far as I got. Wished I'd purchased it in hardcover.

5 out of 5 stars you don't have to be Jewish   May 7, 2009
ani (nj, usa)
Sometimes, you just need to laugh. My husband and I read this aloud-ok, we're retired teachers and we need an audience! He's Italian, I'm Armenian, and we relate to this book. What a chance to laugh at ourselves; we've even changed a few bad pet parent habits. If your dog is strictly an animal, you won't like this. If your dog is a member of the family, AND the family is a little nuts, you'll love it.
