Product Description Now in paperback, AMAZING GRACIE is a moving, funny, and inspirational canine rags-to-riches story. "Tears will stain the pages as you read about Gracie," says USA Today. The Chicago Tribune advises, "If you're short on inspiration, read Amazing Gracie." "You don't have to be obsessed with dogs to love this story" (Philadelphia Enquirer), "Two paws up" (Portland Oregonian), "humorous yet poignant" (ASPCA Animal Watch). Booklist comments that "Dog-loving teens, especially reluctant readers, will eat this up." AMAZING GRACIE was nominated as a Young Adult Choice for 2002 by The International Reading Association-proof that it's a great crossover book. Gracie was a deaf and partially blind albino Great Dane with a delicate constitution and a penchant for small miracles. Dan is the man-sad over the loss of his last dog and trapped in a dead-end job-who adopted her. Three Dog Bakery is the burgeoning and much-publicized chain of canine bakeries that, inspired by Gracie, Dan and his friend Mark founded. A love story, AMAZING GRACIE describes how Dan saves Gracie, the loneliest pup in the litter, then how, over the next ten years, Gracie saves Dan and Mark, teaching them the real meaning of happiness. There's the moment of meeting, when Gracie gets to her feet like a clumsy foal and nuzzles Dan's nose. Gracie's romance with the pint-size Boston Terrier next door. And the eureka moment (born of Gracie's anorexia-inducing dislike for commercial dog food): Dan teaches himself to cook and within three days begins baking the dog cookies that will transform their lives. AMAZING GRACIE is a dog-lover's treat.

I fell in love with Grace! October 24, 2009 K. Loyd (Middle TN) This book touched the heart and made me smile, laugh, and cry. It brought back so many emotions from my own dog experiences and I couldn't put it down. I read the entire book at one time! Very comparable to Marley and Me.
Dog love, nothing compares August 31, 2009 Mercedes (Colorado, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book, I cried and I laughed. I'd like to have met Gracie. Dan took a chance at a difficult life with a half blind deaf dog and it took him places and he loved again like he had with his beloved Blue. This story is more about Dan's life with Gracie and his determination to take care of her than about Dan starting his business. Like all good dog stories it starts off with an adorable puppy, has a long life of dog love, and ends with tears. As a dog lover, I thought this book was great and recommend to everyone. Dogs have that special something that humans need to be complete.

One of the best books I have read in a long tome, Funny, Inspiring, and sad, but you feel good after reading this book.
A wonderful "tail"... August 13, 2009 Sharonanna P (Eastern Panhandle WV) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I could not put the book down. It is a very quick read; 1-2 days, but definitely worth the time. It is sweet, funny, and sad, so make sure you have a kleenex towards the end of the book! A tale about a great dane who is deaf & how she taught the authors to live each day to the fullest.
You'll Laugh, You'll Cry June 26, 2009 Roxanne Murray (California, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read this book 9 years ago, shortly after adopting my deaf Australian Shepherd. I loved that the chapters were written in an alternating fashion so that you would be on the floor laughing out loud one chapter and going through half a box of tissues the next. I loved the story - the love story of a man, a dog, a man, and the start of a wonderful business that changed the face of canine cuisine. (I HAVE eaten the vanilla and carob cookies myself when I was hungry for something sweet and had only these cookies in my pantry.) More than the story, however, this book provided me with the courage to work through the problems I had with my deaf pup and learn about how our animal pals adapt to their disabilities just fine.
