5 out of 5 stars Great Dog House   November 7, 2009
Annie Anne (McKinleyville, CA USA)
We priced this exact dog house at a local pet store and then came home and checked on Amazon and it was half the price. We ordered it right away. It came within days and we put it together within minuets and our dogs love it. We have a large Lab and 3 smaller dogs and they all fit inside easily. We are very happy with our purchase and would recommend this product.

4 out of 5 stars very easy to assemble   August 11, 2009

I wanted a wooden dog house for my Shiba and decided on the Precision Outback. It was shipped via Amazon free super saver and arrived very quickly. The assembly was very straight forward, quick and easy. The structure seems solid and although the product has weather resistant coating, I applied some water sealant on the roofing and outside panels. I also put cut flooring tiles to fit under the dog house 'footing blocks' for additional wet proofing.

This seems to be a well manufactured and excellent product.

After being outside in constant rainy weather for two days, a section of shingles on the back right side of the roof warped upward to form a hump. I secured them flush to the backing material with brass skrews. I suppose the roofing panel tolerances may be a bit tight and the constant damp weather caused the shingles to expand from the moisture past the point where they would stay flush.

Again, I think this is an excellent product and my Shiba seems to like the 'secluded' corner inside the dog house created by the off-set doorway.

5 out of 5 stars It's a dog's life...   October 11, 2008
Brian H. (Spokane, WA)
With winter approaching, I bought this house to give my dogs a place to get out of the elements. While it is missing insulation, the construction is very high quality...and will provide shelter from wind and moisture. I am very pleased with the overall construction, the attractive design, and the ease of assembly. The house looks even better than the photo. It went together extremely quickly - took no more than 10 minutes. The instructions were very straight-forward and easy to understand. The unit was packaged very well from the factory...with the hardware pieces arranged and laid out in a way very easy to identify/understand. Assembly litterally consisted of 8 bolts and 12 small screws. All you need is a screwdriver and a pair of pliers! I will very likely purchase a second one because of my overall happiness with this doghouse.

I am on the second one of these for my 8 year old Pyr... He is BIG, weighs about 145lbs... AND loves this dog house.
The first held up for a few years for having such a LARGE dog in it!
I couldn't be happier, NOW I have 3 NEW ones, two Large for my 2 Pyrs and a Medium for my Aussie!
GREAT buy for the price!
The raised floor is GREAT!
EASY to put together. WORTH the price!

5 out of 5 stars Attractive and Roomy   January 10, 2008
Ayalablu (Florida)
I bought this for my cats, in case they find themselves outside during poor weather. I placed it close to the front door of the house so that they could run in fast if it was raining. (That was my reasoning, anyway - animals always seem to have their own plans.) I don't know if they hang out in it, but I do know that when I placed each one in it, he/she did not immediately run out, but stayed long enough to sniff around (the cedar smells great). I assume that they know it belongs to them.

The little house is attractive, well built, and easily put together in a few minutes with a Phillips screwdriver.

I took the time to make a few improvements, which may or may not be necessary, depending on where you live. To protect the house from the harsh sun, sand, and termites here in north Florida, I built a 4' x 4' pallet of pressure treated lumber to get it off the ground, which also provides a small porch for sunning and keeps water from splashing in from the ground. I gave it a coating of Behr's (from Home Depot) on the outside, to make it that much more weather resistant. I cut to size (with a utility knife) a piece of insulation board for the floor of the house, because the slats there are not air tight and would let in cold air - definitely something a cat would reject. Finally, I faced the door to the southeast, for shelter against the cold north air, and nailed a piece of exterior/interior carpeting with a slit in it to the inside of the door.

Another possibility is to line the inside with a reflective coating of some kind, perhaps one of those camping emergency blankets, or insulation that has a reflective surface.

I put in a round, padded cat bed with a hood (that the cats were already familiar with), in the back corner away from the door. There is enough room inside for two cats to lie down, if they are friendly.

All my improvements cost very little in time or money, and I feel assured that my little friends are safely out of the weather when they need to be.
