Beautiful, tall gate November 14, 2009 Ann B. (SE Washington State) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Difficult for children and adults to use, but that's what makes it impossible for toddlers to open it. I need it when 16m grandson is here to keep him and our cat separate. The cat is a bigot toward women (not me his 'mama') and small children. Cat has three legs (one hind leg) so not prone to jumping, yet this gate is high enough to give him pause. The bars widest width opening is 2-1/8 inches.
SUGGESTION: Use a zip-tie strap, etc. to secure the gate before moving. Same principle as when it was first purchased, to ease install, reinstall or storage.
The one I purchased was apparently returned to the store as strap/cardboard was missing.
Made it a 3-5 minute small challenge for me and 6y grandson to install. Then we practiced opening it. I like the red and green indicator to show when the gate is securely set up and closed.
NOTE: Wear shoes or mark the floor bar in some way to remind you to step over or toes will be sore. Especially if left set up and door open.
Very secure, because it is hard to open October 27, 2009 D. Reeves (Arlington, Texas United States) This gate is very hard to open. Being a 200# strapping young lad, I usually have no problems opening the gate...I cannot say the same for my wife and mother-in-law who can open it, but it usually takes them two hands. The other kids who frequent our house (8 and under) cannot open it, period.
The button on the side is very hard to push in and once it is in, it takes putting your body weight onto the lever to get it to open. Putting all of this weight onto the gate causes the bottom screws to bend, so you will need to put it flat on the floor with some type of protection underneath. (I used some little rubber feet)
Once this gate is in place, it is very secure.
Solved Our Puppy Problem! October 24, 2009 Grammiemac (Palo Cedro, CA) We needed to keep our puppy in the kitchen sometimes, and having this gate that we could still pass through easily solved the problem for us. When we don't need it any more, it will just easily be removed!
Good sturdy gate October 13, 2009 C. Moore I had no trouble setting up this gate. There are no tools required. It's a pretty self explanatory process (I didn't even need to glance at the directions). I really like that this gate does not automatically close. It took me a minute to figure out how to open it but once I figured it out it was easy. I can do it with one hand while holding something with my other hand. It's sturdy. You can put quite a bit of pressure on the gate and it doesn't budge. Overall, a great buy.
Sturdy gate, but slight design problem September 21, 2009 Anonymous (Indiana) I have been using this gate at the door to my one-year-old's bedroom for a few months now, and I have always liked it. It is very sturdy, will open both ways, is not too difficult to open, and it is not too ugly to look at. However, today my daughter stuck her hand sideways between the post with the "green/red window" at the top, and the bar directly next to it. The bar is positioned too close to the post, so she was unable to get her hand back out again without assistance. Not a MAJOR safety issue in my opinion (did not cause any real injuries), but still not something that should have happened. I reported the incident to the CPSC and Evenflo, and we'll see what happens!
