Generally speaking, it depends on how you want to use it. My review is based on my own application. I bought this gate to prevent my dog go upstair. Sometimes, I moved it to the kitchen. It is easy to install and remove. The locking mechanism is very strong and strong enough to hold my 40 lbs puppy. The material used is a good quality. Oh, do not expect any manual or guide for the installation. I just follow my own logic. So someone might find it difficult to install it. You may need someone to hold the gate for you in the position you want while you are fixing the position. After couple of times, you may find it easiser. By the way, the door is supposed to close automatically by the design. If you complete the installation, but the door does close automatically. You have to check the locking position. You may have to loosen one side (either left or right) until the door can be closed automatically.

Overall, we are happy with this gate so far. We've had it a month, so it hasn't been through anything really trying with our 8month-old. We would say the biggest down side to the gate is installation time. But we like the fact that it can be moved around to different doors without leaving holes in the wall or door frame. The latching mechanism is easy for an adult but difficult for a child to figure out. One has to push a sliding button with the thumb and lift up the gate to open it (opens both ways). It closes without the button. Simply lift up and pull shut...or with a "light slam". Our doors and walls are white, so this cute little arched door seems to fit with the house.

I use this gate for a pet, not a child. My eight year old (and the rest of our family!) can easily open the gate to walk around the house where the dog is not allowed. It opens either direction, but swings shut automatically in one direction, but not the other. It closes very easily. I was able to install it (with 1 extension, included) within five minutes. I am very happy.
Note: Our gate is on one one level, not near stairs, and is not used to keep children in/out.

This gate was very easy to install. No problems with it closing properly. It is even installed on the baseboards and still works like a dream! Purchased as a pet gate. My 4 year old can EASILY work it. Wish I had found this gate years earlier!
