Still barking... September 4, 2009 D. A. Hill (Atlanta, GA) I bought this collar a week ago for my 4 month old Weim puppy. So far it makes him bark more for some reason. I've reluctantly gone up to level 5 on the collar with no change in the barking behaviour.
Didn't work for my Chihuahua! August 19, 2009 Hannah (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After a lot of research I decided to get this for my chihuahua. She's really small and the problem wasn't that it didn't fit, it actually did, but the thing is that the damn thing activates once every 20 times my dog barks repeatedly. I've tried to strap it on tighter and get it to 4 or 5 and it just doesn't make a difference. Whenever it activates, my dog does react to it, but since it works so sporadically she just doesn't make the connection that it happens because she barks, so the barking keeps on going.
I'm gonna get another brand and pray to God that it works this time.
This thing delivers! August 3, 2009 Michael S. Wilson (Norman, Oklahoma) I was extremely pleased with the effectiveness of the bark limiter. We live in an area visited by numerous wild animals so our Schnauzer went wild many nights, barking probably hundreds of times (individual barks)and wrecking our sleep. The first night with the Limiter she barked four times. Since then she usually doesn't bark a single time, or once at most. It's a quality product that delivers what it promises.
Extremely fast results. Worth every penny. June 28, 2009 Bryan Anthony (USA) I work the night shift, and my german shepard / black lab mix never barks when I am home. He's a perfect angel. However it turns out when I'm away he goes into guard-dog mode and barks at everyone (even my landlord neighbor). Needless to say, the neighbors didn't appreciate his guard-dog efforts.
So, I bought the Tri-tronics bark limiter XS. Initial I thought I wasted $100 because it had only counted 3 corrections the first night, and no corrections after that. So, I decided to find out what was going on. I set my PC microphone to record all night while I was away. When I reviewed the recording, I heard the rain outside, some thunder, and the dog drinking from his dish.... NO barking. It turns out this amazing little gem trained him to stop barking after only 3 corrections.
3 corrections, on level 2.... no more barking. Worth every penny!
Does what it says... but.... June 2, 2009 jerryp 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
OK, so as a tool to stop my dog from barking this is very effective. 5 stars. That was the goal, however a few negative consequences have resulted that someone considering this should be aware of.
1) This causes many bumps on his skin where the contacts touch. These are sensitive to the touch and I have to move the collar around on his neck so as to not use it in the same place two times in a row. These bumps will go away after a couple days if you leave the collar off of them. Leaving the collar too loose makes it ineffective against barking, tighter and he gets the bumps badly.
2) It will trigger when my dog sneezes. A *very* negative fact as far as I'm concerned.
3) He is very collar aware and hates this collar. You could argue that this is an owner-created problem but we have several different collars for him (remote, prong, flat, bark-limiter) and he really hates this one most likely due to the sensitive bumps it causes. It is a chore to put it on and he basically fights it. The dogtra remote collar we have does not cause these problems.
In conclusion though, it's the only way we've found to reliably make him quiet when we need to.
